Aaron Vann Plano, TX A Brief Bio of Grandfather John Paul VannAaron Vann Plano, TXAaron Vann—a portfolio manager in Plano, TX—is proud to be the grandson of longtime military service member and legend John Paul Vann, the subject of Neil Sheehan’s 1989 novel “A Bright Shining Lie: John Paul Vann and America in Vietnam.”Aaron Vann Plano, TX Born in Norfolk, Virginia, John Paul Vann graduated high school (Ferrum College) in 1941—and from junior college in 1943. Eager to serve his country in WWII, Vann joined the U.S. Army Air Corps at the age of 18 and earned the commission of Second Lieutenant in 1945—though the war came to an end before he could see action.Aaron Vann Plano, TX John Paul Vann—who married in 1945—was responsible for coordinating the transport of the 25th Infantry Division at the onset of the Korean War, and was given his first command as Captain of the Eighth Army Ranger Company in 1950. Later in his career, Vann earned the promotion to Major. His initial service in the Vietnam conflict came as advisor to Colonel Juynh Van Cao in South Vietnam in 1962.
